The treatment process

The treatment process

From an initial shared understanding to independent work and follow-up.

The treatment process

Treatment starts from your OCD pattern and your goals. We adjust the course of treatment as we learn from your experiences.

For enquiries and practical arrangements, see getting started and your first session.

How we work together

These five parts may overlap. Some will need more attention at different points in treatment.

  1. Shared understanding and goals

We explore your OCD pattern, your circumstances and what you would like to change. Together, we set goals and a direction for the work.

  2. Knowledge and tools

We develop a shared understanding of OCD and work with the visible and mental strategies that maintain the pattern.

  3. Work during and between consultations

We plan relevant exercises and draw on your experiences from everyday life in the next consultation.

  4. Adjustment and independence

We adjust goals, content and pace in response to your experiences, so that you gradually become better able to manage OCD independently.

  5. Ending treatment and follow-up

We bring together what you have learned and agree on how you will continue the work and what you can do if OCD starts to play a bigger part in your life again.

Your personal course

An active part of treatment

Your personal course is a private online course that brings together knowledge, exercises and tools for understanding and managing OCD and anxiety. We use the material actively in consultations and in the work between them.

  1. Understanding OCD, from the basics to more advanced ideas How OCD works, what keeps it going and how to manage it.
  2. Understanding and managing anxiety Information and exercises for understanding anxiety and responding differently to discomfort.
  3. Exercises and tools Exercises and tools used during consultations and in the work between them.

You can return to the course material later whenever you need it.

The course is part of treatment and does not require separate enrolment.

Work between consultations

What you try between consultations is a central part of treatment. We plan specific exercises together and use your experiences to guide the work that follows.

This is not a test you can pass or fail. What goes well, and what proves difficult, gives us important information for your ongoing treatment.

The pace of treatment

We regularly review how often we meet and whether you have enough time to practise between consultations.
