Individual OCD treatment from age 15

We adapt OCD treatment to your circumstances and agree how often to meet, with time to practise between online consultations.

What you would like to change

Individual treatment is for adults and young people aged 15 and over. You may only recently have recognised your difficulties as OCD, or you may have lived with them for years. We begin with the situations you find difficult and what you would like to change.

If you are at school or college, this might mean being able to attend regularly and concentrate, spend time with friends or become more independent. OCD can also complicate family life at a time when your role at home is changing. In adulthood, it may be affecting your work or relationships, or making parenting and everyday responsibilities harder to manage.

A parent, partner or someone else close to you can join a consultation when this would be useful and has been agreed. This gives you a chance to develop a shared understanding of OCD and discuss how they can support you without taking over the work of treatment.

Deciding where to begin

If you have had treatment before, we look at what you already know and what you have tried. You may have found it helpful, been disappointed, or experienced both. Talking this through helps us decide what to build on and what needs a different approach.

If you also experience anxiety or depression, or have ADHD or autism, an individual assessment helps us understand what this means for your treatment and what to prioritise. Not everything needs to be treated at once.

How your consultations can be arranged

Our page on the treatment process explains the clinical approach and how we use exercises and a private online course as part of treatment.

We agree together on the focus of treatment, how we will work and how often to meet. This needs to fit both your goals and your opportunities to practise between consultations.
